Your pet can collect wood, herbs, and ore for you. However, this has absolutely nothing to do with how you collect materials outside in the wilderness.
Your first step is to visit one of the pet hunters again. There, we will look at the selection of items in their small stall. Among all the other items, a pet hunter also carries:

To have your pet collect materials, you'll first need to equip it with the specific tool associated with each material type you want to gather. After obtaining the required tools, go to your pet interface and click on the second-to-last tab on the right.
The Magical Golden Tools reduce the craft time by 50%.
In the top portion of this window, you'll find progress bars displaying the current levels of your pet's three gathering skills. This area provides an overview of your pet's abilities and shows you how it's progressing in its collection tasks.

In the Pet interface, navigate to the second-to-last tab on the right to reach the material collection feature. In the upper section marked as (1), you'll find progress bars and the current levels of your pet's three collection skills.
In the lower section, there are some key areas to focus on: on the left side (2), you'll see a slot for the tools you've bought. Based on what you want to collect—be it wood, herbs, or ore—simply drag and drop the matching tool stack into this slot.
Next to the tool slot, there's a drop-down menu (3), where you can choose what your pet should gather. At first, you'll only have one choice, but you can find the level requirements for additional options by looking at the material title.
The collectable materials are usually similar in level and type to those you'd find in the wild. Once you've set what you want to collect, click the start button (7) in the lower left corner. Your pet will immediately begin working, as shown by the progress bar at the bottom of the production area. Each cycle will improve your pet's level in the corresponding collection skill. As the pet's levels grow, more cycles will be needed to progress further.
Above the progress bar in the production area (4), you'll see the materials that can be gathered during a collection cycle. Beneath that, you'll find what has been collected so far (5). The image above shows that two types of materials can be obtained: some are abundant, while others are rarer. There's also a third item called a "Mysterious Item" This item appears roughly 50% as frequently as the other two materials combined, and it can be sold to any NPC for 107 gold. Its only known effect is that it slightly reduces the cost of tools.
You can stop the production anytime by clicking the red checkmark button (8). The current cycle will reset, but you won't lose any tools. You can then rearrange or remove the remaining tools from the slot. Clicking the sack button (9) will collect the gathered materials, moving them to your backpack.
Before starting a new cycle, you must first harvest all the materials, even if you plan to collect the same items again. The button with the question mark (10) provides a brief tutorial on how to gather materials with your pet.
Finally, keep in mind that when your pet is occupied with collecting materials, it won't be available for other activities like merging, feeding, and so on.ing, etc.
Leveling up your pet's crafting skills in mining, woodcutting, and herbalism can be done efficiently using specific tools:
